Dear Friends,
For more than 125 years the members of Saint John’s have gathered to thank God for life, and the joys and growth it brings. This year our stewardship theme is taken from the hymn “How Shall We Show Our Love to Thee” (1942 Hymnal #305). As we look forward to our 127th year, we truly have much to be thankful for. We are blessed with a beautiful place to worship—a jewel of the community—and it is filled with excellent educational, outreach, music, youth/adult programs, and most importantly, each other. Our congregation is vibrant, loving and growing. We are truly blessed.
The hymn “How Shall We Show Our Love to Thee” illustrates the ties between our acceptance of God and the blessings he enables for us, and our ever-unrequited gratitude. As we sing the hymn in the midst of daily turmoil, strife, joy and humanity, let us together remember the blessings we have—individually, together, and in each other—and give thanks to God. Giving thanks is one of the most human of gestures. It’s something innate to our nature, instilled in us by the creator himself.
At Saint John’s our worship, educational, social, and outreach opportunities are founded in the talents, participation and support of you, the members. As with any organization, we continually juggle the wants and needs of our family against the financial resources at our disposal. We are very fortunate, however—more fortunate than most. We are all, together, able to pursue an ongoing mission of hope and growth. It’s not a single point-in-time effort though. It requires a renewed commitment from each of us. Our hopes and aspirations for the new year center on a continuation of the many good things we’ve done together, and a renewed commitment of support for them in the new year.
When we bring our pledges to church on Sunday, November 4, we’ll make that reaffirmation of gratitude and hope. Together, we’ll thankfully acknowledge our hope of not only continuing the growth of our parish, its programs and membership, but also hope of growing the participation to and with the members. We’re speaking of 2008 as our year to not only acknowledge our gratitude, but also as one to better engage each member and further grow participation. We’re grateful for your part in Saint John’s, and thank you in advance for your consideration and generosity as you consider your 2008 pledge.
Every pledge is important to the continuing ministry and mission of Saint John’s. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of your pledge, and your part in what Saint John’s is to its members, and to its community—and for your consideration of how and where Saint John’s serves you as well. Our gratitude abounds. Thank you.
Faithfully,
Frank Wilson, Rector
